What we fix
  • Single-glazed aluminium windows letting heat out and cold in
  • Heavy condensation forming on the inside of the glass in winter
  • Road or street noise coming through the windows
  • Cold spots near windows even with the heater running
  • Hard-to-heat rooms with large window areas
Signs you need this
  • You can feel a temperature difference standing next to the window
  • Condensation pooling on the sill every morning

  • You're considering full replacement but the frames are sound
  • You want better acoustic insulation from a busy road or neighbour
How it works

From the first photo to a tidy job site.

  1. Step 1

    On-site assessment

We check your existing frames are suitable. Most aluminium frames in good condition are. We'll be honest if they're not, and recommend full replacement instead.

  2. Step 2

    Per-pane measure

Every pane is measured individually. Insulating glass units are made to order, sized to the existing rebate.

  3. Step 3

    IGUs fabricated

Glass made to spec, including low-E coatings and argon fill where appropriate. Lead time is typically 2 to 3 weeks.

  4. Step 4

    Old single panes removed

We strip the existing glass, clean the rebate, and prep the frame for the new unit.

  5. Step 5

New IGU fitted with new seals

Insulating unit set in with new glazing tape, beads, and seals. Sealed and tested before we move to the next.

Free per-pane quote after on-site measure. Pricing depends on glass area, IGU spec (low-E coating, argon fill, acoustic options), and access. No deposit needed to quote.

FAQ

Retrofit Double Glazing questions

Common questions we get about retrofit double glazing across Christchurch and Canterbury.

How much does retrofit double glazing cost?
It varies by window size, glass spec, and how many panes. As a rule it's a fraction of the cost of full new joinery, because the frames stay. We quote per-pane after measure so you get an exact number.
Is it as good as full new double-glazed joinery?
For thermal performance, yes. The insulating glass unit (the IGU) is what does most of the heat-keeping work. Modern IGUs deliver the same R-values whether the frame is new or existing aluminium. The frame itself isn't where most heat is lost.
How long does the install take?
Most homes take half a day to a full day, depending on the number of panes. We work room-by-room with minimal disruption.
Will retrofit fix all my window problems?
It fixes thermal and acoustic issues. If hardware, seals, or alignment also need attention, we sort those at the same time so you get the full benefit.
Are my existing frames suitable for retrofit?
Most aluminium frames in sound condition are. We confirm during the on-site assessment. Frames with significant corrosion or damaged profiles may be better candidates for full replacement.
